Last weekend I went to Heber Springs and helped my brother replace the tub in the 2nd bath with a step in shower.  I guess when they build mobile homes, they put these things in before all the walls, because we had to cut a hole in the bedroom wall to get it in.
And for payback, he came over this weekend and welded in the shock tower fill in plates.  These are 12 gauge metal and WOW, they stiffen up the fender aprons A TON.  Since I am keeping the bolt in panel on the outer side for extra strength.  I saw a YT video that has inspired me for extra beef that won't take up engine bay space.

Basically a sandwich plate on the outer firewall.  The inside piece is welded on the inside of the firewall, with some nuts welded on.  The outer plate is welded to a piece of tube that is welded to the reinforcement.  That way it can be removed if ever necessary.

But here are some pictures of the plates welded in.  Today I spent over an hour removing most of the paint and rust under the hood.  I got tired of getting wire stuck in me, and don't have another.  So I have to get a couple more to finish up and get it ready for epoxy primer.

Sorry to dig this up but I was searching the net for 1962 Falcon and seen this post. I am supposed to go pick up a really nice 62 2 door falcon this weekend. On the way to work this morning I thought to myself, man that's be neat to do one up with a 2.3 Lima turbo. Of course I have quite a few parts laying around to do it with from previous projects, so it might just happen. I have other engines too; couple SBF's and a Lincoln Navigator 5.4L Intech engine. I'd love to use that but it's huge and parts are scarce for em in comparison.

cool post. And I ain't far from your brother. I'm in Heber roughly twice a month, fishing the tailwater.
