This is rather perplexing to me. The gauges in my pillar pod used to fog up when you first turned the lights on and it would gradually go away, and I always figured that some water was getting around the weatherstripping and into the gauges somehow and then when the light bulb heated it up, it fogged up. Well, tonight I had the lights on in the car for the first time since I put the gauges in my center console, and my oil pressure and volts gauges both fogged up...but the oil temp gauge was fine :headscratch: What the frick is the deal with this?
rain-x anti fog. my 66 stang does this when it rains b/c water leaks inside and i ue the vent to try and remove the moisture from the window it fogs up. i belive it is just moisture. i cant see what the lights have todo with it except warm the gauges and get rid of the moisture. body heat has a factor to. and breathing on them as well
They fog up on the inside though, how could I use the rain-x stuff?
Also my windshield leaks pretty bad in a couple spots and it's cracked, I'm gonna get it replaced hopefully next week...
moisture from the cracked windshield has probably gotten inside the gauge cluster housing man and is just sitting in the bottom back of the housing. water goes where it wants to.
I have 6 autometer gauges in my XR and only the fuel pressure gauge fogs up. It had to be the most expensive one. It's been doing this for over a year and only with the lights on. I wish there was a fix because not only is it annoying but I am worried the moisture could damage the gauge itself.
Seal up the back of the gauge. Most guages have openings for the fitting, and bulb. Lots of air and moisture can get in even with the bulb in it, so try and seal it up. Maybe hot glue even, its easy to rip off later.
My water temp gauge does this also but I have no leaks.Mine may be from slight moisture in the heater box.My fuel pressure guage is outside and never fogs up.Weird.

that b/c the inside of the gauge is the same tmep as the outside air. it fogs up b/c it either gets warmer or colder.
Well, tonight I drove home and the gauges never fogged up. Who knows...
My gauges look foggy sometimes when I have been overserved adult beverages! Usually in the AM.
