Not sure if you'd care for the "look", Drew ~ BUT......what about your original idea of using longer (grade 8?) strut-mount bolts (with thick-walled tubular spacers?)? <shrug>
I thought about that, but the undermount I don't think is designed for the shock body and spring to be thru it, just the shaft. I say this, because the plate on top of the coilover with the roller bearing is already beat up from hitting that plate...because it already protrudes too far. Maximum Motorsports gives 2 short and 2 long spacer for the strut shaft and instructions say for a lowered car (SN95) put one short under and the rest on top. I think I have to run at min one large spacer down there to get the strut top plate out of harms way, but that reduces my bump travel another 1/4" already.
The only way I see that working is to open the hole on the MM underplate, but there's not a lot of meat there, so I don't think I will gain much. Plus is the spring is up in the hole, there is not going to be much in the way of caster/camber adjustment.
Trust me, I've thought about it...that would be much easier. As would K member spacers...but there's only so much. I might go ahead and run 1/2" of K member spacer, but anymore would probably create more headaches.
