That Engine Lab article is for V-ate owners, Pat. There aren't any "lifters" in a (OHC) Lima engine, nor is there an oil gallery plug inside the dist-gear area. As for additional/augmented gear oiling, it's up to you (altho I'll probably never add it), BUT.......I would personally prefer using or making the grooved aux-shaft bearing over a separate tube/hose feeding an oil nozzle.  <eek>

Ok, I greased the aux. shaft and distributor gears with moly grease. (thanks Dan) And I added ZDDPlus zinc additive to my oil, I also stuck a big magnet to the oil pan, I will run it another 1-200 miles and check for more wear. When I rebuild the other engine I will go with a billet aux shaft and the grooved bearing.

I also did the remote TFI mod and placed it up in front of the radiator support, should stay nice and cool there. I also added a bottle of Redline water wetter to the cooling system as it can reach the 220 deg mark when it is above 90 in stop and go traffic.

I do not have a catalyst in my exhaust system and I have started to use racing oil. Here is an article from 2010 about using racing oil.

Thanks Dan,  I do not have a catalyst in my exhaust system either.

Bad luck continues to plague me, I did the TFI relocate and tried to fire it up... cranks but no fire. So I'm thinking something with my wiring right? So I unwrap everything and find everything is correct.  I plug the module back into the dissy. and still no spark. I check the coil and the coil is dead. What are the odds of that? So I change coils and I get spark to the plugs Ya!! I wrap all my wires back up and by now the dissy. has been in and out a dozen times, I thought it was in correct for timing and went to fire it up and BANG! Huge back fire out the exhaust. Pulled the dissy. again and find it about four teeth back. Reset it and fire it up to have a very loud knock from the valve train. I'm thinking bent valve? Clasped lifter?

I did a compression test just before this happened and again after and have 125 to 130 psi. on all four, the same as before.  My engine sits in tight under the cowl and I do not have room to pull the valve cove off. So I been thinking about cutting the cowl to gain access so I did. Pulled the cover to find cylinder two exhaust rocker lose, all others nice and tight. Wondering if it will pump back up with some run time or should I replace it?

There's only one way to find out, Pat!  I WILL say, however, that HLA's don't usually collapse while just "sitting" for short-ish periods of time.  <shrug>

Thanks Motorhead, I took the GT to Kenosha Sun. for a car show a friend has put on for years. I love seeing all the American Motors cars there. Looks like you like them as well!

Well I have put about 200 more miles on the car and just pulled the distributor and was very happy to see now more visible ware! Yay!!  The moly grease (thanks Dan) and the  ZDDPlus zinc additive are working. So I greased the gear again and reassembled for a few more hundred more miles. I'm driving it to Springfield IL in Sep. for the route 66 car show.
