cheaper to build a V8 than a 700hp turboford.
be different? 5.4 Navigator engine with turbo's. Over 1000hp and quite easily on low boost (17 psi should just about do it). Navi's have steel cranks-factory like a 03-04 Cobra does. Their biggest downfall (5.4) is the lack of a decent intake but if you can find a way around that you can make a ton of power, and it can idle silky smooth and quiet, nobody would ever know. My friend has one in an SN95 and it rips!
a 700hp 4 cylinder is a maintenance nightmare. You will work on it more than drive it. You will need TONS (literally) of spare parts. The block won't take that power for long. Head? LOL! 4.7 hp per cubic inch, if you put 4.7 hp per cubic inch to a 400" engine, you would have around 1800 hp.
If I were being different, I'd have a custom cross-plane crank made for a Lima, and the correct camshaft. The hurdle, balancing it so it doesn't shake itself to death. May be impossible given a Lima's design. I haven't looked at it enough.

'93 Mustang 2.3T swapped. LA3, Stinger FMIC 3" down elbow and 3" exhaust.
