Any easy way to rule out bad cabling/geometry on clutch pedal?

Yup been through this. Aftermarket cables suck. Get a FORD OEM cable if you can find one. Maximum Motorsports has them for the V8 cars, but not for the 4 cylinder stuff. I got mine at a dealership, leftover NOS parts, they discounted it to "cost" to move it and I jumped on it. It still wasn't cheap but it's FAR better than the autozone cable.

Ray's right, you can take a brand new even worn out cable and with no load on it, the inner cable will move perfectly freely. Put a load on it in the car, and things change drastically.
'93 Mustang 2.3T swapped. LA3, Stinger FMIC 3" down elbow and 3" exhaust.

I doubt Ill get lucky enough with a discount at a Ford Stealership. I wonder if I can modify a MM cable to work on the 4 banger setup hmmm?? For the time being I might try to lube the cheapo cable to temp made it better.

Cars not on the road yet but its gonna have to be addressed soon as im sure my left leg is gonna get tired haha.

When I ran the bell crank stuff, I always used an aftermarket ATP cable. Never an issue.

No help to you, but my clutch set up is so light I run a return spring to put any feel into it
