bearing retainer
#1

In regards to the throw out bearing retainer , it seems to be different among the T-5 transmissions.  Is there a difference among the 2.3 T-5s?  I had a stock T-5 for a turbo coupe and replaced it with an SVO transmission.  The gearing was a lot better. I thought I could replace the retainer with a steel one ( Summit, Jegs) but read they are different and only one place ( Hanlan?) makes the correct one.  I am aware the input shaft end for the 2.3 is smaller than the 5.0.

I don't remember if I smoothed out the retainer or replaced it.  What will eventually happen if I put in the wrong retainer?  age is starting to catch up to me.
Other possibility I have  3 or 4 2.3 T-5s sitting around and might have picked the best retainer and used it on my car

There was a thread on here that entailed how to fix them using a toploader retainer "piggy-backed" over the top of a sawed off T5 stock retainer.  See if you can find that thread by searching.  I did it on mine and it is slick.  The toploader retainer is all steel (or cast?) and not aluminum.  The only parts you need is the toploader retainer, and 4 longer 8mm bolts (I forget the length I want to say 40mm).

You're not losing it Ray, I had them stored on one of my backup drives. I was collecting info of various way to repair the retainers including replacing the 'tube' as you mentioned.

The SVO trans uses the same size retainer as a V-8 trans so the available steel retainer can be used.

Paul, to which SVO trans are you speaking?  There were at least 2 different ones to my knowledge.  Are the 4.03 and 3.50 SVO transmissions using the same retainer and bearings as all of the V8's or?  I don't know the answer, which is why I'm asking.
