My theory is they keep adding these 'features' to gently steer us toward accepting autonomous cars rather than force them on us all at once. :dunno:
Just another way to 'dumb us down' and take more control of our lives. Personally I hope it doesn't happen in my time. :nono:

I'm with you Paul, they'll bury me with the throttle cable. My wife's Fukus drives me nuts sometimes. Don't get me started on the traction control!

That's how we get traction control and other stuff. With complete freedom of engine placement without worrying about those pesky sticky throttle cables.
I'm currently on my third car with throttle-by-wire, second with electric power steering, and first using brake-by-wire. All necessary to get to autonomous, self-driving vehicles.
Great stuff. And whether you like it or not, THAT is the direction the automotive world is going. With a bunch of batteries. [/b]
Until the system gets hacked by someone in North Korea. Don't be so quick to rely on anything that your life is dependent upon without your input or control. Or forced on us by those that are dumb. And as we see, those higher up the chain are some of the biggest morons around.

Soon the old "points and carb" crowd are going to post comments. We're beyond 30 years of computers taking over our lives. Get over it.
Paul - which do you prefer manual mill or CNC??

LOL and who's gonna be liable in a crash? You have to sign a waiver to ride in them.

You forgot to mention old Ford flat head motors...lol
I difficulty with what I posted is the fact that 'choice' is being taken away. I have no problem with computers helping us but I do when they remove our decisions. Rant over...
As you know, I spent almost 25 years as an aerospace tool, die and gauge maker at P&WA. I learned the trade the old fashioned way and got to see all the new technology that came into the field via computers.
I would much rather port a cylinder head with a CNC program than doing it by hand.
All my machines are manual but I did install DROs on a few of them. I would have a CNC mill if I could afford one.

Guys with the high speed data buses they use today and fast processors in the computers you really don't notice any lag in throttle response it also allows for less nvh felt by the driver. It also allows for advanced stability control as well which is good for inexperienced drivers. Yes I see your points and I personally don't like the brake by wire on the new hybrids as far as feedback is concerned but the fastest cars in the world are hybrids guys. Just look at formula one.
Mike, what I meant by 'choice' is when Big Brother no longer lets us drive ourselves and forces us to use autonomous cars in the name of safety and reduced highway fatalities. They already tried to make it illegal to modify new cars which would have killed racing.
Computers have definitely improved our lives and made things easier and I have no problem with that. It's when the government steps in because they think they need to protect us from ourselves is where I have an issue.
Hmm, I think we best stop this, I'm starting to break my own rules about political topics. :nono:
