Hello all,
I have a 1986 SVO with a 3'' Downpipe to cat, then stock mufflers.
I was thinking of getting rid of the old cat to hopefully get a better sound and be a little louder.
What sounds good, I don't want to spend a ton on exhaust right now.
i did a Borla ProXS and it sounds good.
i made the mistake or trying a flowmaster 1st. aka dronemaster.
you get what you pay for.
hard to make that little tractor motor sound good on the cheap. lol

Getting rid of the catalyst will make the exhaust a bit louder. I think the sound quality will be similar and not change much. I don't think you will notice an increase in higher frequencies of sound. Not a huge difference in my opinion. I don't know if it is worth the effort. It might also make the exhaust smell a little more of unburnt fuel.
Maybe some other scofflaws can tell you their experiences with eliminating the catalyst.

I used the DynoMAX Super Turbo muffler on the roadster. I really like it. It's got a good throaty sound to it along with very little backpressure.

Where in the world did you source those bitchin' cast/forged ladder bars, John? Are they steel or aluminum? Hopefully, they're accompanied by a Panhard rod or Watts linkage. <shrug>

Sorry for the late reply, Ray. Rear control arms are off a 1990 Land Rover Discovery. They're all steel. $35 for the pair at Pick-N-Pull's half price day!
I also made a panhard bar from the Kia rear control arm that you can see in the bottom of the above pic. Yeah, it's probably too short but after several thousand miles it seems to work just fine!
