Hello everyone, my son and I are putting a 2.3l turbo from an 86 turbo coupe into his 89 foxbody. The turbo definitely needed a rebuild so we purchased Rebuild kit and started to tear it apart. Everything came apart fairly well, except for the exhaust housing. Despite our best efforts to soak it, but one of the bolts sheared off in the housing. I am debating between trying to drill out the bolts or just replace the housing. So far I have had no luck with finding an actual parts breakdown of the turbo online. The Ford plate number says:E5ZE-9G438-AR. I couldn’t even get anything to come up on the Garrett website From what I can find, I believe this is a T3. .6 m11. Would anyone here have a link to a parts breakdown for this turbo? It also looks like we will also need the actuator as it is frozen solid. Thank you in advance! E
It's a .60/.63 50-trim T3 turbo with Ford-specific housings. Turbine housings with the Ford five-bolt outlet pattern are still widely available, but quality from no-name sources varies widely as well. I got a cheap one to modify for fitting on a Borg Warner turbo and the outlet bolt pattern was rotated at least 10° toward the passenger side. It definitely wouldn't have fit properly with a stock downpipe. If the Garrett housing isn't badly cracked around the wastegate, I would try saving that first. If you replace the turbine housing, it needs to be specifically for either a stock T3 turbine wheel or a "stage 1" as the no-names call it.
What you refer to as the wastegate actuator sounds like the actual wastegate arm in the wastegate elbow/housing. Your only option for a working stock one is the used market. It can probably be freed-up.

We were Ford men and we likely knew that we would race until somethin' blew.
