You may already have the heater box back in the car, but it might be worth pulling back out in order to install a Continental/Siemens/VDO PM3652 fan motor. It's about an inch shorter than the stock one and will buy you some precious space behind the turbo outlet elbow. It will need to have the shaft shortened and the flat on it extended closer to the motor unless you use an aftermarket metal fan with set screws to hold it on.
There is an even shorter (only by about 1/4") PM360 motor, but I haven't tried one and it's more expensive. The extra 1/4" isn't going to solve any space problems I have behind the turbo.
