Help identifying 2.3l T parts mishmash
#11

15 psi is stock for INTERCOOLED 2.3's. Non-intercooled got 9-13psi depending on the application. Note these are 93 octane only.

If it's got an ECU designed for an intercooled setup then 15 psi is WAY too much at stock timing levels. I'd suggest looking at the ECU and getting the 3 letter code on it so we can see what it's from. 15 psi and an ECU for an intercooled setup will blow the headgasket (best case) or melt pistons (worst case) so figuring this out is critical.

The ecu is from a 88 T coupe from my understanding. I'll pull the scuttle off and confirm the numbers. Thanks for the info!

If so it will say LA3, LA2, LA, 8AU, or LB3 (I think that's all of them for those cars). If so, that's an intercooled ECU in which case the timing needs to be dialed way back and/or the boost turned down since you can't run an intercooler and don't want to run water/meth injection.

OK, thanks. I'll ck on the ecu this weekend.

So I pulled the scuttle off and confirmed the ecu is a LB3 so for an intercooled car. The builder has put over 10k miles on this setup and I had the head off due to some cooling issues (the small holes in the head gasket were almost fully occluded- why are the head gasket holes so small when the jackets are 5x the size?) and everything looked fine. The head gasket wasn't blown and the piston tops and valves looked fine. Regardless, it's a cheap hotrod so I'm not worried. Remember the engine is only pushing 1300lbs so it's not really stressed much at all.

I DO have some room next to the radiator but it would make the IC only about 10 inches wide and 20" tall... Would that be enough? Could I put an IC in FRONT of the radiator?

Yes, 20x10 would be plenty large and it can also go in front of the radiator. That's where most front mount intercoolers go.
