LA3 or LB3 into 85 TC auto
#1

ok first I did a serch to see what I could find out about this swap out, not much but did find out it has been done.

I bought a 85TC auto to replace my 88TC-5spd

I do belive the the PK1 is on the fritz, so I was tring to find out what all was involved in droppin the LA3/LA3 into the 85.

Is it as simple as plug and go or is it alot involved to it? Need to repin?

I dunno... but from what I gather [from readin' on here] all the "P" series EECs are pretty much plug and play with eachother, but to put an LA3 in you will have to re-pin I would imagine.

I "think" a "PE" [85.5-86 SVO EEC] will plug n play into an 84 SVO [long as you add 35 lbers and unhook the 84 style BCS] so........ I am guessing it would be a similar re pin to that type of swap?

The 85s have C3s don't they? If so i'd toss in the LA3...I guess. Pretty certain you'd need to repin though.

Don't waste an la3 on it... use the LB3... and sell the LA3... Performance should not be that much different. Most likely u need some repining and think you need the ACT sensor added too.

But do you have much plans....to use a tuner?

Also injector size and MAF size is different on the 85...

JohnK - I have seen some 85 TCs with the inline intakes and 30 lbers and seen some [the 85.5s] with the 4 square and brown tops.

If his is an 85.5 then he should be fine injector wise but the vam is still small vam.

I would throw in the LA3 and get a big VAM.It will run better from the LA3 being a quicker ecm.
I noticed a difference between the 84 ecm and the LA3.

It is a repin..the same as the rest of the P-series.

Look HERE at GT350R's site.... You'll only have a couple wires to swap really and add in the stuff for the ACT. Also..there are pin-outs HERE as well. I have stumbled across a couple discrepacies on the 87-88 stuff first listing there, but you should be able to figure it all out with both that and the other diagram.

If you have both and LA3 and the LB3...use the LB and sell the LA.

99% sure the LA3 and LB3 are the same EEC hardware just somewhat different code to control the auto....

Yup, just the extra pin(s) to control the auto.

Also, the rumor is the auto ECUs hve a slightly more aggresive timing map than those for the manuals as well....
