Before I swapped in the walbro 255 my gas gauge worked fine. When I swapped it in, I kept the sending unit plug, the circular one with the two big prongs on the side. But cut off the other one and taped the wires and tucked them away.

My gauge is now nonfunctional and the warning lights for everything come on on the center console above the radio.

I was reading the shop manual and found that the one I cut off had "gauge ground" on one of the prongs. So I figure I would just have to pull out the tucked wires and ground one of the two brown wires in there. I tried that and still haven't figured it out.

Should I pull the tank, crimp the plug back on, but leave the power wire off, and plug it back on? Will that fix it? Just asking so I don't waste time dropping the tank.

i had the same problem with mine the gauge worked like a charm until i put the pump in then it didnt really work at all.i finally figured it out you have to run the power wire and the ground wire from the pump wiring under the car. At first i just ran the power wire and i grounded the pump to the rear panel by the taillights. Just take the ground and run it up to the external pump wiring. I left the two plugs to the sending unit plugged in.Hope this helps.

Ive had the same problem since I did my 255 too. I thought I just wired the sending unit wrong :dunno:

Thats what I did, I put the plug back onto the fuel sending unit and reconnected the grounds, but left the power line disconnected.... We'll see if it fixes it when I get my intake back on.

THEY WORK! haha for some stupid reason all of the gauges are grounded on the fuel sending unit. If you cut off the main plug into the fuel sending unit you lose gauges. In order to maintain the gauges without blowing up the car, you've got to only cut the red and black power wire and touch nothing else!
