OK All - the car has been finished a year now and it's pretty great. My son drives it almost daily. He's had it to the autox 4-5 times now, and everyone loves it. It's not the fastest out there, but it sure is the classiest.
We have run into a problem with the turbo - its shot. There is enough end play that it passes oil around the seals when under vacuum - decelerating. Still makes boost, but it is just a matter of time until its completely toast. This engine came out of a turbo coupe - what would be a good replacement turbo. WE don't need a lot more power - but a little more would be ok. I would like to keep the same fitment. We can modify our plumbing, but there's another project here that needs to get done before we'd have time to do that - so keeping the same dims more important than more power. We would be ok with new or good used.
What's the scoop with this "Big R" guy? Reputable?
Thanks for any info. Bob

Hi Bob, no worries with Chip. He is a long-time member of TF and very reputable, his products are good and his support is too.
The Chiny turbos he rebuilds with good parts would be an excellent choice for you.
I would suggest you get a 'stock' type Garrett T-3 turbo like what came on an early TC/Merkur.
Chip could advise you on something that would give you a bit more oomph without hurting your spool up time.
We need to meet up at some time, I'm just around the corner in Lebanon.

I agree on Chip being a good guy and good products.
One thing to be aware of, the Churbo product he sells didn't line up directly with the existing down pipe. It was off by like 5 degrees, so you'll need a fab something to match them. Note that this was 3+ years ago when I got one, he might have been able to solve that since then. Reach out to him on his site and he'll let you know the current state of the hot side on his turbos.
84 Capri RS Turbo - total rebuild. Running, 7 years later.
