Pinto Alternator Brackets
#1

1 set upper & lower 2.3 Pinto alt brkts. NOS lower is the coveted (rare?) aluminum version. The top bracket (good/used) is steel and fairly heavy (2lbs 2-1/2ozs, vs aluminum lwr @ 1lb 6-1/2ozs).

I also have several NOS aluminum lower brkts by their lonesome (w/o an upper). Because of its' weight, I personally will be using the aluminum lower w/o the factory upper, by tensioning the belt instead with a homemade "rod-end turnbuckle" (L/H & R/H-threaded rod ends separated by an threaded aluminum turnbuckle. A small alum angle bracket will attach one end to the head. But.....whatever blows yer skirt up. :dunno:

1 - Pair of upper and NOS aluminum lower brkts (only pair available) = $100 + actual shipping, via USPS Priority Mail.

1 - Lower NOS aluminum bracket (several available) = $60 + actual Priority-Mail shipping. Smile

UPDATE #1:

It turns out that these aluminum lowers are OMC marine .alt brkts for a 2.3 Ford engine. They bolt on in the exact same/like manner and may in fact be made by the same foundry/vendor - but, they have a narrower span between the alternator-mounting "ears".

Whether or not they fit, say, a 3G, "x"G or another common alternator, I'll determine later on by taking some measurements and then figure out what to do with 'em. SORRY! Sad

UPDATE #2:

Comparing one of my marine alt brkts with an original Ford iteration reveals exactly 1-in span difference between the alt-mounting ears. The images below show two A-B comparative views: pic 1 = Ford on top & pic 2 = Ford on right.

OTOH, the two views below of a 1G alternator show the 3-in mounting boss, the rear side of which could easily be trimmed 1" for proper fitment between the ears of the marine brkt. I don't have pics of a 3G, but its' mounting-boss length is also 3" and probably just as easily trimmed. BTW, the fore/aft position of the pulley remains correct, regardless of whether or not the rear of the mtg boss is trimmed:

The upshot of all this is.....I'm willing to part with the NOS aluminum marine lower brkts for $40 each, instead of my original $60 asking price, since using 'em would require slightly more effort - namely, shortening the alternator-mounting boss 1-in. <font color=green>

Standard aftermarket "one-wire" alternators (aka Chebby) are 2".

Hmmmm.....I wonder if the "spread" between the pivot and tensioning hole is 7" (178mm) like the 1G and small-frame 3G, so the Ford upper bracket could be used? Of course it would also need to have the proper hole diameters and the same armature-shaft "stickout" so its' drive pulley would align with the Ford crank & w/p pullies.

Seems to me like it might be easier just to whack an inch off one of the Ford iterations than trying to get all those Chevy "stars" to align, lol. OR.....get one of the alternators that were used on the Ford 2.3 marine engines. :pat:

BTW ~ the genuine Ford aluminum versions bear engineering number "D9EE-10039-AA".

I still have several marine low-mount "Pinto-style" aluminum alternator brkts (see pics and text in this thread) for $40 each + actual shipping via the carrier of your choice (Priority Mail to anywhere in the CONUS is approx $13-$14, altho other methods might be cheaper - DUNNO). Smile

Ray, would this include the upper and lower bracket for mounting the alternator or would it require an additional bracket? Can you shoot me a text at 717 315 0298.

Thanks, Garfield
Projects starting over/under construction. Stay tuned...

.
FWIW ~ I still have  7   (edit 12/7/20 = 2) of these low-mount (driver's side) aluminum alternator brackets left for $40 each (12/7 = shipped). I don't have any of the stamped-steel "belt-tensioner" uppers,  BUT......a suitable (lighter-weight) alternative could easily be fabbed by slotting the end of a 1-inch steel or aluminum strap (the other end would fasten to the front of the head).

BTW ~ Cheaper in quantity! Subtract an additional $5 for another bracket added to the purchase (I.e., 2 = $7) = SUCH A DEAL!! [Image: happy0034.gif]
