I got the rear stuff put together. The new pads had some kind of spring clip or something with them, not sure what it was for; at least the old setup didn't have anything like it. The 82/83 caliper seems to fit fine, I don't see any differences in it from the one that was on there.

I went to bleed brakes and couldn't get anything out of the rears, pedal just stayed hard and wouldn't come down when I cracked the bleeders open. So it looks like I've got something going on with the master cylinder. When I pump the brakes, I can see fluid draw down through the port in the front reservoir and then the fluid comes back up through the port into the rear reservoir.

Before condemning the m/cyl, I suggest cracking the brake line loose from yer "new" caliper and checking for fluid at the line. I would tend to think the prob is more likely a "non drilled" bleeder-screw hole than a m/cyl, BUT.......I wuz wrong once b4!  <shrug>

The bleeders are drilled on the sides, but it's a reasonable question.

I pulled the master cylinder and proportioning valve. I took the ends of the prop valve and there was some stuff hardened up in it, didn't pull the plunger out of the master cylinder. I hit one of the prop valve caps with some scotchbrite pads and whatever it is hardened up on it just tore up the pad, so I I'm going to go ahead and replace both.

I've searched online and can't find a prop valve, I did find a rebuild kit which will hopefully do the job. I'll have to see if I can get all the pieces fully disassembled. They recommended soaking it in ammonia for several hours to assist with cleaning. Sounds like another project for next weekend.

I rebuilt the prop valve after a heck of time getting it apart. Actually had to use acetylene torch to get enough heat on it to get it apart. Cleaned the heck out of it and reassembled and installed, still no fluid out the back.

I pulled the one brake hose that I hadn't replaced, the one with the splitter on it that bolts to the top of the axle. It's definitely plugged up. I found one at CJ Pony, no other parts places seemed to have it. So, it's on order now, hopefully that will be the last of the brake issues.
