Throttle position sensor- where to buy
#1

Like it says. Where are we buying high quality TPS for these engines? Napa does not stock them anymore, and Orielly and Advanced Auto parts, don't list one either. The pics of the ones that Auto Zone shows look wrong, no slots.

Alternatively, is there an alternate throttle body/TPS that will work without requiring reprogramming of the EEC to handle it. The TPS on the car now is suspect, and I don't wanna roll the dice on an Amazon special that will only last a week or less.

OK, I have gone blind. I looked 2 days ago on my phone, and couldn't see that Stinger offers one. I'll get it from him.

Stinger has one on his site now. The last I knew they was mostly otherwise dried up in the aftermarket supply chain.

The Stinger 3 pin and 4 pin Throttle Position Sensors look good. No reason not to get a Throttle Position Sensor from Stinger.

There is an aftermarket sensor available from Walker. Walker makes a 3 pin Throttle Position Sensor 200-1018 that looks good, but I have never purchased one. A couple of Amazon reviews said they had early failures. They also have a Throttle Position Sensor - Full Service Kit 200-91018 which should work also.

One problem with the Walker Throttle Position Sensor 200-1018 is that they have the vehicle model years messed up. If you don't put in one of their model years, then you won't find the sensor. The vendors selling the Walker Throttle Position Sensor also don't always use the same model years as Walker.

Walker sometimes has only the 1987 Mustang listed as using the 200-1018 Throttle Position Sensor. The T-bird is sometimes listed from 1985-1988. The XR4Ti is sometimes listed from 1985-1987.

I don't think you want the Walker 200-1016 Throttle Position Sensor, which is sometimes listed for the 1985-1986 2.3L Mustang.

The Standard Motor Product TH15 Throttle Position Sensor seems to be discontinued. Standard Motor Product sometimes recommends to use other sensors of theirs that are still available.

Bought the one from Stinger. It's going on the car this weekend if time allows. Gotta pick up leaves, and we are having guests over tomorrow night for my birthday a week later than initially planned.

Still workin on it Ray. TPS is hopefully a part of the issue. I plan to get that in, as long as other tasks don't get in the way, and also set up data logging for TPS, VAF, ECT, RPM, and O2(what the EEC is seeing, no wide band data) and go from there. I have until December 31st to get this past smog before I pay late fees on my plates.

If Colorado is similar to CA........you can pay for your registration renewal prior to the "late-payment date" and avoid penalties, even if you haven't passed the smog test(s). The DMV is ALWAYS happy to take your money! You won't get the new sticker, however, until you DO pass.  <shrug>
