This didn't age well ....

I ended up loosing this season to supply chain, machine shop jail (supply chain driven) and generally a lack of motivation.

I now have it back in my control to get the new tall deck and head together and be ready for next season. Lots of decent parts anyway.

I agree! It's hard to imagine cracking a cyl wall in a properly filled block, BUT........DUNNO!  <shrug>

I’m surprised more don’t crack.Passenger car blocks are thin on front of #4 and rear of #1. When I chipped a piece of the cylinder out of the one I split the fill was still there and intact. I just think the cylinders move too much on combos above some number (north of 500) and the fill looses adhesion. The piece I broke out of mine was .094 thick as best I could measure on the edge of the crack.

The one I built as a replacement was the best of the cores I had, and we nudged the bores to the thicker side when it was bored. It hasn’t cracked, and is now in the corner as a spare.

I’m no expert, but know a lot have been cracked that never get posted / shared / talked about.

You're probably right about the loss of block-fill "adhesion", Bob.......likely due to different rates of expansion/contraction. That's the only thing I can think of that would leave the cyl wall sufficiently "unsupported" to allow it/them to crack. BUT.......you won't have to worry about such an outcome any longer, lol.  Smile
