Before I get my 2.3L turbo together and in the truck, I'd like to be able to drive it with the carbed 2.3L NA that's already in it. (Don't worry, I still think this counts as a TurboFord question.) The thing is, the previous owner who swapped it in didn't bring over the computer for the mustang that the engine came out of. Therefore, while it has a TFI distributor it doesn't actually have any input from the computer, and is always running at initial timing, no advance at all (I think). It runs pretty rough, and I'm guessing that's the main culprit. I figure I have three options to deal with that.
1.) Find a 74 Pinto distributor with points, 2.) add all the Duraspark stuff, or 3.) add a computer to run the TFI module. I figure option 3 works best for me, so I can go ahead and mount the computer where I'm going to mount it for the turbo engine anyway. And since I already have the computer, might as well put it to use. It's a fairly temporary solution, and it'll help prepare for the 2.3T when I get it built.
So my question is this: Could I mount the computer (LA2 or ZAA) and wire up only the stuff related to the TFI module, or would the computer need the other sensors/EFI stuff to do engine timing? I could get a different computer too, but I figure I'll just use what I have for now if I can.
Thanks for the help,
