WANTED: Ranger Manual Steering Gear (Box)
#1

.
(duplicate ad also placed on "The Ranger Station")

As the title says, I'm looking for a good manual steering box for my '87 2WD Ranger. I'm putting the old girl on a diet and I'm trading a few pounds of ugly fat (no comments from the peanut gallery, Paul) for increased steering effort by converting from the OE P/S that's currently in place, to.....(gasp) manual .steering! . [Image: confused0016.gif] . Soooo.........I'm hoping to trade all my P/S components for their manual counterpart(s). .

Apparently, the same steering box was used from '83 all the way into the mid/late 90's.....maybe beyond ~ DUNNO! So, if you have a Ranger with manual steering and would like to upgrade to power..steering, I'll trade ALL my good/non-leaking P/S parts (gear box, pump, pump-mtg brkt [2.3], hoses, belt, rag joint, etc.) for your good/non-leaking manual gear box and rag joint (the input .spline count is supposedly different).....for just the price of shipping .(which is probably less than fitty bux), via whatever shipping method you choose/desire.

If interested, please respond either to this thread, PM or raycasner@gmail.com .[Image: happy0034.gif]

No takers, eh? In spite of having four different P-n-P J/Y's within 30-ish miles of my home........I HATE going there during the summer to spend time on my back pulling one of these gearboxes for 60 bux, in spite of how easy it is to do. BUT........I guess I've got no other choice. . [Image: sad0019.gif]

I’m in no big hurry.....it’s well over a hundred degrees in Sacramento these days and I’m a wuss when it comes to very-hot weather. I’ll probably go in the fall (not too long from now).

I’m also too much of a wuss to drive w/o power steering, BUT....I plan on installing an electric unit under the dash (Saturn, Versa, Prius, etc.) and ditch the OE hydraulic gearbox, pump and hoses. <thumbup>

How much for shipping to 95667? The larger .Priority Mail "Flat-Rate" boxes are 12-1/4 x 12-1/4 x 6 (large) and 11 1/4 x 8 3/4 x 6 (medium). Will it fit in either of those sizes (the Pitman arm & rag-joint/coupler would probably need to be removed)? If so, it could be picked up by your local mailman for a reasonable  cost ($21.10 & $15.05, respectively). I haven't priced UPS or Fedex, because I don't know the weight or required box size ~ BUT, I suspect it would be more.

There are 4 different Pick-n-Pull yards ($2 entry) within 30 miles from my home (Sacramento, Rocklin, Antelope & Roseville) and they want $42.99 for a.steering gear. BUT.....in spite of being a cheap SOB, I'd have to "weigh" the downside of allotting 3-4 hours for the round trip and the on-my-back-in-the-dirt .removal. How about $85 shipped? .<shrug>
