What to run, Slicks or Drag radials & why
#1

What to run, Slicks or Drag radials & why, that is the question.

  • The car: SVO
  • Weight: 3300-3400 Lbs with driver
  • HP: 400-600
  • Trans: C4
  • Converter: {thinking 8" w/4500-5000 stall}
  • Rear axle: 8.8 with 4.10 gear
  • Suspension: FMS lowering springs, air bags in rear, boxed uppers, South side lift bars, weld on subframes. Stock Koni's {soft in front, middle in rear}, sway bars intact & operational.
  • Rims: stock SVO 16x7", {possibly a Ranger steel wheel OR open for suggestions on junk yard solutions}
  • Size: I'd like to run a 255/50-16 {but I'm worried they'll rub} OR a 26x9.5-16" .

So lets hear what you guys have/would run & why.

TIA, :thumbup:

I wanna go FaSt, really really fAsT. :thumbup:

Right now, hoping for low-mid 11's, consistantly & anywhere.

Longer term, when this drivertain gets put into lighter, less street but more drag orentatied car, I'l like to see 9's.

Slicks or if this car is still street driven Micky Thompson drag radials , or the Hoosier quick time pros .
I had quick time pros and they worked good both places !

IMO, there is no reason to run radials unless you're required to because of a certain class you're running in, or you want to run on the same tires on the street and track and are willing to compromise a bit at the track. You'll go quicker with slicks.

I guess this is where I'm stuck.

How much quicker will the slicks be?

Will drag radials even take high rpm transbrake launches {with my suspension mods listed above}?

Are you wanting to run the same tires on the street? If not, there is no reason to "try" the radials when you know the slicks offer more traction.
