I've heard that a radial slick is faster than a bias ply slick .

We are consistently faster on an et street or m&h than a full slick in our 2.3 car. Same as our turbo v8 car too
There are drag radials in the 7's now, todays tires have alot to offer. A little slippage off the line isnt a bad thing.
Andrew, is this for the street, or the strip strictly?
I have driven cars on DR's (actually put miles on a car with Nittos, which aren't nearly as drag oriented) and they handled well, and were ok in the rain.
If it is primarily for the track, you would likely be more happy with a more traditional "slick."
"wrinkle" in the sidewall does a better job of leaving hard, while still absorbing the shock of the hit. You will break fewer parts for a given 60' time with the ET Drag or ET Street type tire.

"If you can't dazzle them with knowledge, baffle them with bull sh*t"
Drag radial slicks are almost always faster by .07 to .10 seconds than bias ply slicks. I have done a lot of testing and know many other drag racers that confirm the numbers I have posted. This assumes you have apples to apples with tire diameter and gear ratios in the tranny and the rear gear ratio. I don't have any data comparing street tires to drag radials. I wish you well, with what ever choice you make.
I'm serious. I just typed a big message about slicks and a 5spd and then it hit me...
Despite the fact you lack the $8k in suspension we are all supposed to have my thought is it could probably be made to hook on DR's with what you have. ...however you could slap some 26" slicks on and it would hook for sure.

Id just run slicks. Only problem I see with you wanting to run them on the svo wheels is that if they do spin on the wheel can you or are you gunna wanna drill holes for screws?
Prolly be just as easy to get another set of wheels you dont care about as much just for racing.

With a dialed in aftermarket suspension and an auto trans, the drag radials would be great (hence the guys hauling ass on drag radials in big $$$ cars). Since you don't have time for dialing it in and the suspension setup isn't ideal, the slicks would definitely work while the radials would be questionable as you turned up the boost.
Im on Radials and 60 ft as well as anybody, but my suspension is nothing like stock... They sure are stable on the big end!,Joe
Also radials are NOT suppose to work well on a light car.
