Which starter with canfield adapter?
#1

I will be running a canfield adapter on my 2.3 to accommodate a v8 flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, and TKX transmission. For those who have gone this route, which starter are you using?

I run the 5.0 starter because it's a 5.0 bell Wink

Either starter will actually bolt up and work. You might find some interference on the bottom of the block with some models since the starter need to "go past" that. I usually grind a big chamfer on all my blocks in that ear area,

I actually run the 5.0 starter because I needed a new one and could get a better model easier for a 5.0.

Thank you Bob. I probably should have added a little more context to my original post as my concern was with any potential interference and you answered that. Do you have any experience with the "mini" starters?

I run a powermaster mini starter.

I’ve used both 2.3 and 5.0 aftermarket stuff and they seem to fall off over time (slow starting). This one has been perfect several seasons. I was using cheap ones from eBay and they didn’t last.

The interference is there the solenoid on the top joins the body. I just hit it with a flap disc on an angle grinder like a generous chamfer on the underside of that side.

Thank you; I appreciate the information!

I plan to purchase a 5.0 starter for mine as well, but the stock 2.3L starter bolted on it and it worked well enough to start it. I probably won't purchase one until the current one goes out.
