1968 Falcon Project
#81

The black car, on the other hand, has been a problem child. A motor mount let loose earlier this week, and the fan nicked the radiator. This might be the catalyst I needed to pull the motor and swap in the 2.3T.

I've been looking at a thread on another forum, https://forums.vintage-mustang.com/build...upe-8.html, that looks very similar to my Falcon. Is "Beau" on TurboFord?

According to that thread, I'm going to need a "Front Sump" oil pan & pickup. That bit of info sent me on a wild goose-chase of oil pans across several vendors. I believe Speedway has the pump pickup (https://www.speedwaymotors.com/2-3L-Ford...29621.html) but finding a pan seems to be much harder.

Any thoughts from TF crowd? Anybody have one laying around, or know a Part Number I should be searching for?

I'd really rather not spend the money on a Kevko (https://kevkoracing.com/collections/ford-2300)

Put an ad in the "wanted" section for a front-sump pan and pickup, John.

And, YES....."Beau M" (username) is on this board. BTW - I think <font color=blue>THIS</font> is his build thread that you intended to post (you were off by one digit). :dunno: <font color=navy>

Also, Brian Fitting (angliagasser) built " <font color=blue>GT140T</font> ", a 2.3T-powered '66 mustang. <font color=navy>

It’s been a while, but yesterday I FINALLY picked up a front-sump oil pan. I found it on FB Marketplace for FIVE DOLKARS!!!! It took several weeks to get it, just schedule logistics, but here she is. At least I hope this is right??? Can’t beat the price!

Looks right to me, John! Do you have a "line" on a front-sump oil-pickup tube? :dunno:

If not put an ad in the "Wanted" section &/or get ahold of "Chip" (biggrgivens) over on FB. <font color=purple>

Ordered one off of Speedway earlier today.

I'm re-invigorated now! I hope I can get it running yet this fall.

Hopefully simple question - I've cleaned up the oil pan, getting ready to spray it, and I noticed my replacement front cover has slightly larger bolt holes than the original. *I BELIEVE* it came from a Fox Mustang of unknown year. My Pinto oil pan also has slightly larger holes in the front corners.

Can anybody confirm what size bolts these would be? M8's? And all other holes are M6's?

I can't recall exactly, John ~ BUT.....probably M8, since it's the next metric "step up" from M6. I doubt that they're 5/16, but DUNNO! Try 'em both and see which of the two fits w/o binding, lol. :dunno: <font color=navy>

Well, once again, two steps forward & one step backwards. I have the exhaust manifold and elbow cleaned up, throwing on some paint to make it look spiffy, and I took the IHI turbo apart to check it out, clean it up, etc.

Overall, it's in pretty good shape. There doesn't appear to be any oil leaks. Then, I separated the exhaust housing and found this:

--------

The crack is internal-only, so should I pretend it's fine? Should I find a replacement housing? Or turbo? Or should I start shopping for a Garrett instead?

Any advice?
