Exhaust question
#1

I want to do all new exhaust from the turbo back this spring. I'm looking at 3" from the turbo back [including a 3" high flow cat] into dual 2.5" mufflers. Does anyone see a problem here, as in is the reduction neccasary? Mufflers are up in the air so far, but straight through is what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Mike

Most say that single 3" flows better, but duals look better [Image: cool.gif]
I'm still up in the air right now,I got a 2-1/2 with a Dynomax Race Magnum and no cat and it flows pretty good, but when I get my 3" DP I may go dual in to 2 differant kinds of mufflers, and get a unique tone.

When I first built my turbo car it originally had 2.25" straight through w/ no cat. When I changed it to 2.5" downpipe split to 2.25" duals w/dynomax super turbo m
ufflers I noticed a 3lb min. jump in boost. ATR claims 3" single flows better, but Jerrys right the duals look better for sure. Personal taste I guess [Image: wink.gif]

It's up to the owner what looks best--If you want the sleeper, go with a 3" single. If you want a 5.0 look, go for 2.5" duals. I got a helluva deal on mine, it was about half what a single 3" would be, not even counting the 3" DP I got with it. Go with whatever, I can't imagine mine flowing much better, so personally I don't think it matters. I've driven cars with 3" single--It was louder than mine.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think a 3" turbo-back w/ a high flow cat is right up my alley. Now, the only other problem is....what muffler to run!! [Image: eek.gif]

Hey that's the same boat I'm in. What do you think you'll have to spend to do that?

No-RICE and 85 turbo bird...

I was once in the same boat...i had a 3" downpipe run to a 3" cat (and then 2.5" from behind the cat.) You know what muffler I got? NONE! the thing sounds great and is quiter than all the civics with fart pipes on them. Sitting at a red light i'll hear myself idle...i used to get confused and start looking for the "muscle car" i was hearing.....it was me...lol

okay, now most people agree that the single 3" exhaust flows the best but I have been seeing a lot of people with the 2.5" single form the cat back. Why are you guys doing this?

i'm wondering because I went to get an estimate for my exhaust at Midas (~$400 for a 2.5" system, hi flow cat, and muffler) and they said that the 2.5" system would be better for driving around town. They said that I would have no backpressure with a 3" system and it would only be good when racing. is this true [Image: confused.gif] or are have they been sucking on too many tailpipes?? [Image: biggrin.gif]

I would like to have a good amount of torque when racing but I would prefer an increase in streetable torque. (Does this make sense to anyone?? [Image: smile.gif] )

Probably cost and ease of install.

You've got more than enough "restriction" through he turbo.
