Jim McDonalds car is a full-on race car...

Copper gaskets do what they are designed for well - drive a 1/4 mile at a time. IMHO they were never really designed for a street car and i wouldn't use them as such.

Heck - even on a race car - alot of the V8 guys i know with copper head gaskets have to add 'stops leak' to the system just to keep the head from leaking in the staging lanes.

My Pinto (street car) used a copper Head gasket, No leaks or problems. I just sprayed with lots of copper coat and retorque after first heat cycle.

Not sure of the selling price.

copper coat?? is that like gasket sealer for copper gaskets?
Do they just leak antifreeze? why not hvae some sort of ring built in to prevent leaking?? I realize you can get higher pressure with one of these, but that is it!

Copper Coat is a spray on gasket sealer by Permatex. Just get it at your local parts store.

I know what a shim is for but could it be used as a gasket by it self?
Could this be used:
"DEAD SOFT COPPER SHIM USED TO HELP RESTORE THE "MACHINED-AWAY" THICKNESS OF THE HEAD OR BLOCK. 0.020" thick "
That can be ordered through autozone for $14.95 and it is made by Felpro!
